Campeche
The seafront at Campeche in the Yucatan peninsula of southern Mexico has been the subject of some innovative redevelopment as a remarkable public space. Landscaped walking, running, and cycling tracks run along a sitting-height sea wall for over five kilometers along the Gulf shore. Even the palm trees give the impression of high design, with the white-painted bases (to deter bugs from climbing) and the banded strips where the annual leaf growth has been removed.
Uxmal
The El Advino pyramid at Uxmal (pronounced Ush-Mal) in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. Occupation of this site dates from between 500 BC until the classic period around 800 to 1000 AD. Among other details this structure features the rounded corners unique to what is known as the Puuc style of Mayan architecture.
